Bob says, "Check out the new Inventor Support Blog!"

Are you in manufacturing?  Looking for some Inventor support?  I just got an email from Bob Van der Donck, the Inventor Technical Lead in the Product Support group at Autodesk.  He'd like all AUGI members to know about a new blog in the 'o-sphere.

INventorBlog

“On May 1 2009, the Inventor Product Support Team has officially launched a new blog to the growing list on Autodesk.com.

http://blogs.autodesk.com/beinginventive

The purpose of this blog is to provide proactive support to both partners and customers based on the experiences we develop from issues coming in from the field.  Our hope is that this will better equip both partners and users to solve their own problems as quickly as possible without the need to reach out beyond their web browser.

As the Inventor line continues to expand into more specialize areas it is more important than ever that we react to hot issues quickly and broadcast the lessons learned to help others.  Our goal is to ensure our customers have the best experience possible with our Inventor family of products.”

Autodesk Labs - Shrinkwrap Add-in for Inventor 11, 2008 (SP2) and 2009 Early last week (2008-08-04) over on Autodesk Labs, Scott Sheppard announced the availability of a “Shrinkwrap Add-in” for Autodesk Inventor.

The “Shrinkwrap Add-in” is compatible with the following Inventor (32-bit) products:

  • Autodesk Inventor 11
  • Autodesk Inventor 2008 Service Pack 2
  • Autodesk Inventor 2009

Direct link to “Shrinkwrap Add-in” for Inventor:

The below is taken from the ‘User Guide’ file (available as a PDF download via the above link):

Shrinkwrap Add-in for Inventor is an Inventor Add-in to create envelope parts from Inventor assemblies. Shrinkwrap Add-in for Inventor enables you to:
  • Create substitutes for use with alternative representations in Autodesk Inventor
  • Reduce detail of production data to protect intellectual property
  • Create simplified data for complex purchased assemblies
Shrinkwrap Add-in for Inventor takes advantage of Inventor’s derived part workflows to create a standalone, single part solid version of a model assembly. Most of the work for the end user is identifying holes in components to be filled with solid material. Shrinkwrap Add-in for Inventor fills any voids that remain in the assembly components.
This process of hole-filling is an interactive activity, allowing you to control how the envelope is created, including the level of detail desired. The following steps will introduce you into the functionality included in Shrinkwrap Add-in for Inventor.
